Intro to The Journey to Melonia, a Swedish animation based on The Tempest by William Shakespeare
When a ship sinks during a storm, a slave from the industrial island of Plutonia is washed up on the beaches of paradise island Melonia, where the “all-powerful” wizard Prospero and his strange friends reside.
-IMDbThis is one of my all time favourite animations to watch. The characters and the world is practically brimming with life and colour and the story is an interesting take on The Tempest, even breaking the forth wall a bit by introducing a poet named William and a certain play he finds in the ruins of a theatre.
The soundtrack is, to me, a source for some serious musical frisson (goosebumps while listening to really good music) and I’ve always loved the animation in it’s complex simplicity.
